"...guitars that sound like a warm breeze coming off the Pacific Ocean during a swaying-palm sunset" - The Georgia Straight

BESTiE was formed in 2012 as an excuse for four friends to hang and make music. Together they distilled their own unique mix of pop, indie and world music with an infectious, laid-back summer vibe; a cocktail they refer to as “Emoji-Pop”, after their self-confessed love for emoticons. But don’t let their youthful vibes and conga line antics fool you- beneath these young hearts beat a nostalgic throwback to 90’s Soca hits and 80’s new wave.

In 2013 BESTiE released their first single, “Pineapple” alongside a tropical-themed music video that immediately resonated with Internet fans. The song reached #25 on Hype Machine, received commercial radio airplay and was even featured on MTV’s teen drama Awkwardan impressive feat for a new and relatively unknown independent band. They released two more videos in 2013 directed by lead signer Tristan Orchard, who also happens to be a Gemini-nominated filmmaker.

BESTiE used this viral momentum to propel them to a $50,000 win in The Peak Performance Project, which financed their debut LP and gained them cross-Canada buzz. They have played coveted slots on many of North America’s hottest festival stages including South By Southwest, Canadian Music Week, and Rifflandia. The band was also featured as the Shore 104 FM “Best of BC” band for October 2013, winning $10,000 and feature spins on commercial radio.

BESTiE chose to record their debut album with Juno Award-winning producer Howard Redekopp (of Tegan & Sara, Mother Mother and New Pornographers fame). No Bad Days was released in April 2014, supported by a national tour, a Canadian Music Week showcase and even a trip to drummer Daniel Ruiz’s native Columbia to film a music video for the single “Sriracha”. The album has been called, “a melodic merging of surf, Afrobeat, Cumbia and Calypso” (Northern Transmissions), with “guitars that sound like a warm breeze coming off the Pacific ocean during a swaying-palm sunset,” (The Georgia Straight).

It’s an album that makes you just wanna have fun and that’s exactly what BESTiE plan on doing. With no shortage of energy or ideas, this DIY-style indie band is just getting started. They aim to release a follow-up to No Bad Days in 2015 and continue to bring their unique brand of feel-good party tunes to stages across North America.

BESTiE is: Daniel Ruiz (drums), Tristan Orchard (vocals) Rob Cameron (bass) and Graham Madden (guitar).
