Red Haven Releases Single “Big Machine” Through Business Class Records on October 14th!
(October 5, 2016)
Vancouver, BC - By combining raucous New Orleans street jazz with indie folk rock, Vancouver locals Red Haven have created an original sound on their brand new single “Big Machine”.
Recorded at Fader Mountain Studios, this single produced by Shawn Cole (Half Moon Run, Wanting Qu, Said The Whale) is quite the earworm--you’ll find the lead-off saxophone hook getting stuck in your head for weeks. Nathan Turner’s drawling voice mixed with Jennifer Charters’ seductive vocals go perfectly with one another. The bridge is a clever mix of samples that create what sounds just like running machinery. The engineers went into the alley at Fader and threw a bunch of junk around to create the sound.
Brendan Steele and Jennifer Charters were inspired to start Red Haven after a trip to New Orleans in February 2014. They returned with a notebook full of songs--and voila, Red Haven was born. They collaborated with songwriter/bassist Nathan Turner, and just a year later, the band received FACTOR funding and took off on four extensive Canadian tours together. Red Haven has released one EP and a full-length album, but this is their very first release under a record label.
Steele explains that “Big Machine” is “a tongue in cheek take on state and status,” alluding to the expansion of the Trans Mountain Pipeline through Burnaby Mountain. Red Haven lets this new single do the talking and hopes to inspire more conversation on this pertinent environmental issue.
Ninjaspy Makes a Comeback with Heavy Hitter "Speak"
(August 25, 2016)
Vancouver, B.C. - Ninjaspy have made their long-awaited comeback to Western Canada’s metal scene with “Speak,” a hard-hitting blend of ska and metal that pushes their already well-established sound to a new brink.
Their trademark metal-reggae flavour, partnered with the producing prowess of GGGarth Richardson (Rage Against The Machine, Atreyu, Red Hot Chili Peppers), has developed over the past few years of introspection, and the Parent brotherhood now wield a new weapon with “Speak,” a taunt for new things to come. Through each verse, Ninjaspy builds a wall brick-by-brick that crushes you in each chorus.
Ninjaspy released their first album Pi Nature with GGGarth in 2007, resulting in appearances on the Vans Warped Tour and Taste of Chaos, and have shared the stage with many notable bands including Protest the Hero, Coheed & Cambria, Thursday, Cancer Bats, Death By Stereo, and 3 Inches of Blood to name a few. In 2009, Pi Nature was released in Japan on Zestone Records following a pilgrimage by lead singer, Joel Parent.
The track begs the question, “Are you gonna speak?” But we ask, “Will you listen?” because you won’t regret it. “Speak” is an undeniable beast.
The new single will be commercially distributed by Universal Music Canada on Friday, August 26th through Business Class Records and will be available on iTunes, Spotify, Bandcamp and Soundcloud.
